Borussia Dortmund have agreed a deal to sell Manuel Akanji to Manchester City, according to Sky Germany. Per the report, the 27-year-old Swiss central defender is already having his medical in Manchester.
Borussia Dortmund will receive a reported fee of around €18 million plus €2 million in bonuses for Akanji. The Swiss international has played for Dortmund since January 2018 and is out of contract in 2023.
No defender is expected to leave Manchester City, and Akanji’s signing is just for more cover at the back. The injury of Nathan Ake may have had something to do with this, with the Manchester City manager possibly wary of the lack of cover at the back towards the end of last season.
The Swiss international is a ball playing centre-back, which will really suit Pep Guardiola’s playing style, the player is expected to challenge for a first-team place upon arrival at the club.
