Gabonese striker Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang is set to join Spanish La Liga outfit Barcelona on a permanent transfer from Arsenal, after both clubs finally agreed a deal.
Talks between both clubs had earlier broken down, as the Gunners were reportedly unwilling to pay part of Aubameyang’s wages but an agreement has now been reached that sees the Gabonese skipper join the Catalans on a free transfer.
Arsenal were willing to allow Aubameyang who had 18 months remaining on his contract with a weekly wage of about £350,000 pounds to leave, after stripping him of the captaincy last December due to a disciplinary issue.
Aubameyang who joined Arsenal in January 2018 for a then club-record fee of £56 million pounds, made his final appearance for the Gunners on December 6th, 2021 and was stripped of the captaincy later that month. During his four-year stint in North London, he played 163 times for the Gunners and scored 92 goals.
Elsewhere, Merseyside outfit Everton have completed the loan signing of Manchester United midfielder Donny Van de Beek until the end of the current season. The Dutchman is the first signing under new manager Frank Lampard, who penned a two-and-a-half year contract at Goodison Park.
Still on the Premier League, England forward Jesse Lingard’s hopes of securing a move away from Old Trafford appears to be over, as he will remain at Manchester United until the end of the season, despite interest from West Ham United and Newcastle United.
Lingard whose contract runs out at the end of the season, will be free to leave the Red Devils as a free agent.
Meanwhile, Frenchman Ousmane Dembele looks set stay at Barcelona, despite the Spanish side having already secured the services of striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on a free transfer from Arsenal.
Over to Scotland, Rangers Football Club have confirmed the signing of Welshman and former Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey from Italian Serie A giants Juventus on loan with an option to buy until the end of the season.
