The Super Eagles of Nigeria soared to the top of the table (Group A), after defeating the Wild Dogs of Guinea Bissau in their CAF AFCON Qualifying Matchday Four clash in Bissau on Monday.

Jose Peseiro’s side bossed proceedings in the opening exchanges of the first half and were rewarded around the half-hour mark when Moses Simon scored a penalty. Full-back Bright Osayi-Samuel did well on the flank by making a surging run and was fouled in the area, which resulted in the spot-kick.

In the second half, Nigeria had a couple of chances when Victor Osimhen’s shot hit the post while Moses Simon’s shot was saved by the Guinean goalkeeper.

The home side had several half opportunities but they weren’t enough to cause trouble for the Super Eagles defence.

In the end, Nigeria claimed the three points which sees them go top of Group A with nine points from four games, while Guinea Bissau drop to second with seven points.

The Guineans are currently topping the group ahead of their more illustrious opposition, thanks to a famous and a shock 1-0 victory in their Matchday Three fixture last Friday at Abuja. No doubt, they will be buoyed with confidence as they seek another positive result in front of their home fans in their quest to reach a fourth successive Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

As for the visitors, a lacklustre display culminated in a defeat which saw them heavily criticized by fans and the media. Their loss also saw them relinquish their hold on top spot, and they will be eyeing revenge in today’s encounter.

Super Eagles gaffer Jose Peseiro has rung out the changes, following last Friday’s defeat and a lot will be expected from the likes of Alex Iwobi, Terem Moffi and the lethal Victor Osimhen.
