The 2021/22 season is over, safe for the Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool in Paris, and we have seen the most outstanding performances from players across Europe.

We at Apex Football found it difficult to curate the team of the season. But after some brainstorming sessions, we came up with a team that would murder any team in a Champions League final or even a World Cup final. Yes, our team does not need Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Mo Sallah, or Robert Lewandoski to be indomitable.

We have opted for a 3-4-1-2 formation and here are the players from the Goalkeepers to the Forwards:

GOALKEEPER:

Alisson Becker

Alisson has had an outstanding season and he is one of the reasons Liverpool have been so successful this season. He shares the Golden Glove award in the Premier League with his countryman Ederson with a total of 20 clean sheets. Alisson has 27 clean sheets in all competition this season and he has been impeccable with his saves with a number of outstanding 1 on 1 saves.

If there is one person Apex Football can trust between the sticks, it would be Mr Alisson because of his efficiency.

DEFENDERS:

Joao Cancelo

Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo offers so much to any team he walks into. The Portuguese defender has an eye for a good cross and he is more of a playmaker than a defender. But this does not mean he is lacking in his defensive responsibilities, Cancelo knows how to get the job done when taking out opponents.

Joao Cancelo is very skilful and can take on any player. He is a versatile player who can play at right-back as well as left-back. Cancelo is also not afraid to take a shot from outside the box!

Virgil Van Dijk

There is a reason Virgil Van Dijk is one of the best defenders in the world today, the man is rock solid at the back. He is the best person to marshal the defence at any given time. With Van Dijk at the back, it would be difficult for an attacker to bag a goal.

The 30-year-old is a powerful figure at the back and would boost the confidence of the team.

Trent Alexander Arnold

This young man has revolutionised the role of right-backs in the game. TAA is likely to bag an assist in any game he enters. Alexander Arnold bagged a remarkable 19 assists in all competitions this season. Even some top playmakers could not get that number.

Trent Alexander Arnold is just 23 years of age and he is already taking the world by storm with his impeccable crossing ability. With him on our team, our attackers would be well fed with sumptuous crosses that can be converted to goals.

MIDFIELDERS:

Thiago Alcantara

Thiago was one of the most consistent midfielders in the 2021/22 season. He knows how to control the tempo of the game. His passing range is out of this world and can change the dynamics of a game.

For a team with a lot of attacking options, Thiago can control things at the centre of the park in order to frustrate any opponent.

Luka Modric

At the age of 36, Luka Modric is showing no signs of slowing down! He is ranked as one of the best midfielders in the world. Every team needs a maestro like Luka Modric and there is no telling what he can create out of nothing!

A moment of magic against Chelsea at the Santiago Bernebeu changed the whole game and that was courtesy of the Croat. If you need big game players in your team, then Luka Modric fits that bill.

Heung-min Son

By far one of the most outstanding players in the English Premier League this season. Heung-min Son is leaps and bounds away from so many players across Europe. Son bagged a remarkable 34 goals and assists in all competitions this season. What is worthy of his note is that none of his goals came from a spot kick!

The South Korean is an impeccable player and one that would run at any defence till his team finds a breakthrough.

Kylian Mbappe

Picking the forwards for our team was a nightmare for us at Apex Football so we had to optimise a team in such a way that it fits a number of key players. That is why Kylian Mbappe would be playing from the left side of the Midfield.

In a PSG team that have the likes of Lionel Messi and Neymar, Kylian Mbappe was the shining light for the French side this season. The 23-year-old went on to win the Ligue 1 player of the season. He had a remarkable 65 goals and assists this season.

Kevin De Bruyne

The English Premier League player of the season makes our team with a remarkable 33 goals and assists this season. The Belgian would be a maverick behind our attackers.

Pep Guardiola is a coach that rotates his team a lot but De Bruyne is a constant in his starting XI because of his impeccable class. De Bruyne has defence-splitting passes as well as a goal-scoring pair of boots.

FORWARDS:

Erling Haaland

Haaland is one of the best attackers in the world and he has shown us that in the past two seasons. He has an eye for goal and can bully any defence in the world. He ended the season with 29 goals for Dortmund and would be looking to continue that form when he wears the blues of Manchester.

Playing Erling Haaland with all the talents in our midfield is guaranteed to produce a massive goal return.

Karim Benzema

Arguably, the top Ballon D’ Or contender of the year. There is no doubt that Karim Benzema has had a monstrous season, probably the best in his career. The Frenchman scored a historic 44 goals this season in all competitions.

Let’s not forget his back to back Champions League hat-trick against PSG and Chelsea respectively. His ability to make something happen when his team is behind is what sets him miles apart from everyone.
