Chelsea vs Real Madrid

Chelsea will have to quickly shake off their shock demolition by Brentford as they host Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Chelsea must swiftly recover from a first defeat to Brentford since 1939 that bore none of the hallmarks of their recent admirable on-pitch form that saw them put aside the significant off-field distractions linked to the club’s impending takeover.

Tuchel is desperate for his side to successfully retain their European crown after seeing off Lille in the last 16, but they face a stern quarter-final test against the 13-time continental champions.

Real Madrid on their part would be looking to change the poor history they have with the Londoners. It won’t be an easy task, but Benzema and Co would have to conjure up magic.

Team News

Chelsea are likely to have a nearly fully-fit squad to choose from on Wednesday, with only long-term absentee Ben Chilwell (knee) definitely still sidelined.

Reece James returned from his latest setback against Brentford, while Christian Pulisic should be in contention after missing out at the weekend following his return from USA duty.

Callum Hudson-Odoi could remain out with Achilles and back issues, however.

Madrid could be led by Ancelotti’s son and assistant Davide once again at the Bridge, with his father still testing positive for coronavirus ahead of the game.

Prediction

This is going to be a very cagey encounter and it would take a lot from both teams. Whenever the Blues are seen as underdogs, they always cause and upset. We might have to give it to Chelsea, at least for this first leg.

Villarreal host Bayern Munich tonight in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie.

The Yellow Submarine secured a famous victory at Juventus in the last-16 to earn this visit from the 2020 European champions, who are once again en route to title glory in the Bundesliga.

RB Salzburg did provide something of a nervy contest in the previous round for Bayern, until Robert Lewandowski kicked into gear to deliver a stunning 7-1 win in Bavaria.

Ahead of the game, Munich smashed Freiburg while Villarreal have suffered back-to-back defeats on the road in LaLiga to raise question marks over Unai Emery’s management of the squad.

Teams News

The hosts are sweating over Samuel Chukwueze after the winger missed the weekend defeat down the coast at Levante, a match for which Emery put out a strong team. Alberto Moreno and Boulaye Dia will also be sidelined.

For Bayern, Alphonso Davies and Joshua Kimmich are both unavailable and they were joined in the treatment room ahead of the tie by Corentin Tolisso – due to a muscle tear. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is also a doubt.

Prediction

We would all be expecting Villareal to cause an upset but Bayern Munich would be too much for them to handle. The Bavarians would want to kill the game in the first leg, we are giving this one to them.
