Manchester United have been eliminated from the FA Cup tournament by Middlesbrough after a dramatic Penalty Shootout. United youngster, Anthony Elanga blazed the ball over to enable Boro a 7-8 victory over the Red Devils.
Middlesbrough are through to the fifth round of the FA Cup after winning on penalties against Man Utd.
The game started on a good note for Manchester United, they were given a penalty in the 19th minute when Pogba was fouled by Dijksteel, the latter slipping and bringing the former down with him as the Frenchman goes for the short ball. Cristiano Ronaldo failed to convert the penalty with his effort sauntering off-target.
The pressure told on Middlesbrough, and they were exposed after Sancho made a perfect run for the crossfield ball. He turned around the defender and tucked it across the keeper.
Middlesbrough came out swinging in the second half and got a goal for their effort when Duncan Watmore took a half-shot over Henderson which was bundled home by Cook. Watmore appeared to have handled the ball but Referee Anthony Taylor ignored the protests and the lure of VAR.
The FA Cup resumed with the mouth-watering fixture at Old Trafford between Manchester United and Middlesbrough.
United, who saw off Aston Villa in the third round, had won three of their last four games coming into the fixture off the back of a two-week recovery period during the international break.
Boro had a run of six wins in their last seven. Chris Wilder’s side are feeling good and enjoyed a solid transfer window which should set them up for a real run at promotion to the Premier League this season.
Paul Pogba made a return to the starting IX after a long time out as a result of injury in what is his first feature under Interim Boss, Ralf Rangnick. Arsenal loanee, Folarin Balogun, leads the lines for Boro.
