Leeds United 1-6 Liverpool: Reds Return to Winning Ways in Style as UCL Hunt Continues, Gakpo, Jota & Nunez Score as Mo Salah makes Premier League History>>>

Liverpool’s slim hopes of reaching the UEFA Champions League next season received a boost on Monday night, as they earned a comprehensive 6-1 victory away to Leeds United at Elland Road.

The match was closely contested in the opening stages, though the Reds gained the upper hand when Dutch winger Cody Gakpo opened the scoring in the 35th minute after being teed up by Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Reds extended their advantage four minutes later through talismanic forward Mo Salah, whose vicious left-footed strike went into the top corner past Leeds shot-stopper Illan Meslier. The Egyptian’s strike saw him set a new record as the player with the most left-footed goals in Premier League history.

The home side made a lightning start to the second half when Luis Sinisterra dispossessed Ibrahima Konate and chipped goalkeeper Allison too halve the deficit before Diogo Jota ended a 32-game scoring drought when he fired a third for the Reds.

Further efforts from Salah (brace), Jota – who also got a brace and Darwin Nunez saw the Reds win big at Elland Road to snap their four-game streak without a Premier League victory and a five-match winless run across all competitions.

The match also saw the return of Colombian international Luis Diaz, following a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to injury. He was one of four substitutions made by Jurgen Klopp late in the second half alongside Darwin Nunez, James Milner and Roberto Firmino.

Overall, Liverpool put in a solid performance and deserved to come away with the victory. However, they will need to maintain this level of performance in their remaining matches if they are to secure a top-four finish and qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.
