Liverpool earned a comfortable 2-0 victory over Newcastle in their Premier League match at St. James’ Park. The Reds dominated the game and took an early lead when Nunez scored in the 10th minute. The Uruguayan was onside and received a superb ball from Alexander-Arnold before calmly slotting the ball into the back of the net.
Seven minutes later, Liverpool doubled their lead through Cody Gakpo. Mo Salah provided the assist as he elegantly lifted the ball over the Newcastle defense to find the Dutch forward in the box. Gakpo then took a single touch before sliding the ball past Pope and into the back of the net.
The rest of the match saw Liverpool continue to control the tempo, but they failed to add any more goals. Newcastle had a few chances but were unable to convert them into goals. The Reds were solid defensively and controlled the midfield, limiting Newcastle’s chances and ultimately securing a deserved victory.
The win moved Liverpool up to third place in the Premier League table, with the club now six points behind league leaders Manchester City. Meanwhile, Newcastle remained in the relegation zone, with just one win from their last six games.

Half-time
Almiron has a shot from the edge of the box after a Burn long throw is nodded back out the danger area, but he doesn’t quite catch it. And that’s half-time – Howe has one huge team-talk to try and turn this one on its head against all the odds.
At 2-0 up and a man to the good, Liverpool could very easily have made this into a boring affair, but it’s been tense regardless and both sides have shown a welcome willingness to fly forward.
Goal! Newcastle 0-2 Liverpool
Gakpo with the second!
The Dutch forward gets the goal, but it’s all about Mo Salah’s assist. The ball comes in to the Egyptian in the centre of the pitch with the forward off his right flank, and he just caresses it first-time over the top of the back four and into Gakpo’s path inside the box.
The ex-PSV man takes one touch and then gets it in the back of the net on the slide past Pope! For all their bluster at the start of the game, it’s the visitors that lead 2-0!
Goal! Newcastle 0-1 Liverpool
Nunez has it in the back of the net, but will it count? The Uruguayan is definitely onside as he finds a gap through the middle, and it’s a great ball over the top from Alexander-Arnold, but there’s a suggestion of a handball as he brings it down.
It’s a fantastic touch to bring it out of his feet, and he lashed it home from the edge of the box past Nick Pope, who could do nothing. Newcastle are convinced it’s a handball, but a long VAR check sees the goal given completely against the run of play!
