Liverpool finally got their first Premier League victory of 2023, after edging neighbours Everton in their Merseyside derby encounter at Anfield.

The Reds came into this contest on the back of three successive league defeats and facing a confident Everton side who dealt with Arsenal last time out, Jurgen Klopp’s men needed to be at their best.

And so it was as Mo Salah scored his first Premier League goal since October off a counter attack, after James Tarkowski had headed onto the bar for Everton via a corner-kick. January acquisition Cody Gakpo tapped home early in the second half to help Liverpool earn grabbing rights in the Merseyside derby.
