German Bundesliga giants FC Bayern Munich have snapped up full-back Joao Cancelo on a six-month loan deal from Premier League champions Manchester City.

The 28 year-old Portugal international had fallen out of favour under City manager Pep Guardiola and subsequently failed to start in any of their last three matches in all competitions. Bayern have now capitalized on the situation and made a swoop
Cancelo’s loan deal will include a buy option clause of around €70m, with the German champions long-term admirers of the fleet-footed defender.
The long-term injury to Frenchman Lucas Hernandez during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar had created a gap in the left-back role, which Joao Cancelo will expectedly fill upon his arrival. The Bavarians had initially signed Daley Blind, following the termination of his contract by Dutch Eredivisie side AFC Ajax Amsterdam.
The deal between both clubs has been swift, though Cancelo’s move has to be completed before the transfer window closes at midnight on Tuesday 31st January to Wednesday 1st February.
