Manchester United took a giant step into reaching the Final of the EFL Cup, following a comprehensive 3-0 victory over hosts Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Wednesday night.

Marcus Rashford struck early in the sixth minute to put the Red Devils in front. Sam Surridge thought he had levelled for the hosts, only to see his effort cancelled for offside by the VAR. New winter arrival Wout Weghorst grabbed his first goal in three appearances for United on the stroke of half-time, while Bruno Fernandes added a third late on in the second half to help manager Erik ten Hag’s side firmly poised to reach the showpiece finale at Wembley next month.

In our second simultaneous fixture of the evening, FC Barcelona saw off the challenge of Real Sociedad 1-0 in their Spanish Copa del Rey quarter-final tie at the Spotify Camp Nou. Ousmane Dembele scored the all-important goal in the 52nd minute to send the Blaugrana through to the semi-finals of the competition.
