Former Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspurs attacker Gareth Bale has confirmed his retirement from professional football, as he bids farewell to the sport.

The 33 Welshman who led his country to the FIFA World Cup in Qatar for the first time in 64 years, had said he would continue to play for Wales for “as long as I’m wanted” but the 3-0 defeat at the hands of England in their last group match which sealed their World Cup elimination, means he has played his final game for his country.
The legendary Welsh forward, who won five Champions League titles with Real Madrid, announced via social media his immediate retirement: “After careful and thoughtful consideration, I announce my immediate retirement from club and international football,”
Bale’s sudden retirement means he will not return for international duty when the Cymru begin Euro 2024 qualifying campaign in March.
