Argentina 2-1 Australia: Messi and Alvarez fire Albicelestes into quarterfinal as Socceroos crash out

Argentina has qualified for the quarterfinal of the 2022 FIFA World Cup after a 2-1 victory over Australia on Saturday.

The Round of 16 match played inside the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium saw Lionel Messi’s left foot strike from inside the box give Argentina in the 35th minute.

After the half-time break, Julian Alvarez extended Argentina lead when he scored in the 57th minute. Australia got an own goal but that was not enough to motivate them for a comeback.
