The Black Stars of Ghana adventure at the 2022 FIFA World Cup came to an end in the group phase, as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of South American side Uruguay on Friday afternoon.
Ghana had a glorious chance to take the lead when the referee awarded a penalty to the Black Stars, only for skipper Andre Ayew to miss from twelve yards. That miss proved costly however as Giorgian de Arrascaeta netted a brace in the first-half to put the Uruguayans ahead and ultimately earn them the three points but it was not enough to get them a place into the knockout rounds of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
In our second match of the afternoon, South Korea sealed their passage into the Round-of-16 as they handed Portugal a come-from-behind 2-1 defeat at the Education City Stadium. Ricardo Horta struck for the Selecao before Kim Young-Gwon restored parity for the Asians before the interval. There was drama at the death though, as Hee-Chan Hwang struck late to give Paulo Bento’s side a surprise win and qualification to the latter rounds.
