Then, with 20 minutes gone, stand-in striker Marco Asencio swept home a cross from Jordi Alba after another lovely move.

Ten minutes later, Jordi Alba was fouled in the box, and Ferram Torres stroked home the penalty.

It has been more of the same in the second-half, with Torres adding a second after a fine turn inside the box.

With 15 minutes left, 18-year-old Gavi completed the rout.

Earlier, groupmates Germany were sensationally beaten by Japan. Hansi Flick’s side could exit the tournament if they lose to Spain on Sunday.
