Olivier Giroud scored twice to help France beat Australia 4-1 and begin their World Cup title defense on a positive note.
Giroud’s two goals in both halves saw him equal Thierry Henry’s record of 51 goal for the leading goal scorer of the French national team.
It was a massive comeback for France who had a poor start that led them to concede to C. Goodwin’s goal after just nine minutes.
But the reigning champions got back to work and A. Rabiot levelled up before Giroud made it 2-1 at half-time.
K. Mbappe, who has been a thorn in the flesh of the Australians, extended France lead with a nice header in the 68th minute before Giroud completed his brace to seal all three points for France.
