Liverpool forward Diogo Jota Set to MISS 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar due to Injury

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Portuguese international Diogo Jota is set to miss the 2022 FIFA Men’s World Cup in Qatar, after picking up a muscle injury.

The attacker picked up a calf injury in the final minutes of Liverpool’s 1-0 Premier League victory over Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday, and MRI results revealed the player will be on the sidelines for a significant period of time.

The 25 year-old was stretchered off in stoppage time after writhing around in pain on the ground, and now the results of his medical tests spell bad news for club and country as he will now miss the Mundial in the Middle East – where he was set to feature for Portugal, and upcoming fixtures for the Reds.

The 2019 Nations League winners have already lost Jota’s former Wolves team-mate Pedro Neto to ankle surgery in recent weeks.

Now Jota is expected to miss at least one month of action, according to reports, as the road to recovery begins for the former Wolverhampton Wanderers forward.

Technically, should he be fit for action in one month, he could still be named in the Portugal squad though that looks unlikely.
