Manchester United are looking at a Deal For Frenkie de Jong, Still Hoping to Sign Ajax’s Anthony

Frenkie de Jong

Manchester United have reached an agreement with Barcelona for the transfer of De Jong, with the transfer fee expected to be £63.6 million + £8.5 million in add-ons. United have agreed to increase the fixed fee by £8.4 million and reduce the add-ons, and will now wait to see if Barca are willing to use the proceeds of the transfer to repay some of the salary they owe De Jong.

Barca are considering keeping De Jong at home before flying to Miami at the weekend as a way of resolving the transfer issue. The transfer is unlikely to happen until De Jong’s wages are agreed, and Barca need De Jong to leave in order to free up more payroll space to complete the registration of new signings, with Rafinha, Christensen and Kessie signed this summer.

United also want to resolve the transfer issue as soon as possible and will continue to wait for things to develop, even if the transfer is not completed by August 7 against Brighton. Tenhag believes that De Jong will be a central part of his plans to rebuild United and he is convinced that the wait will be worth it.
