Nurnberg 3-5 Arsenal: Gabriel Jesus bags BRACE in Gunners Debut; Elneny also on Target

Arsenal Football Club continued their pre-season activities ahead of the upcoming season by beating German side Nurnberg 5-3 in a friendly encounter on Friday.

The Gunners who had earlier thrashed English lower-league side Ipswich Town 5-1 in a behind-closed-doors friendly last weekend, did not begin the game brightly as they were down 2-0 within the opening twenty-nine minutes. The first half ended with Nurnberg taking the lead at the interval.

Upon the resumption of the second half, new summer acquisition Gabriel Jesus scored on his debut off an assist by fellow strike partner Eddie Nketiah. Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny soon levelled proceedings in the 54th minute, before a pair of own goals by the German side saw the Gunners open up a 4-2 lead.

Nurnberg soon pulled one back in the 73rd minute before Gabriel Jesus quickly restored Arsenal’s two-goal lead in the 75th minute, off an assist by Brazilian teammate Gabriel Martinelli.

The game finished 5-3 in favour of Mikel Arteta’s men, who will take great confidence going forward as they continue their plans for the 2022/2023 Premier League and Europa League campaign.
