Barcelona have completed the signing of Andreas Christensen on a free transfer from Chelsea.
Christensen, 26, left Chelsea upon the end of his contract at the end of the 2021-22 campaign.
The centre-back has penned a four-year deal at Barcelona, having spent the past decade in west London.
The Athletic had reported that Barcelona agreed a deal to sign Christensen — and AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie — but were unable to register them due to the financial constraints on the club.
On Friday, however, Barcelona’s financial year ended and the club also announced a €267 million deal to sell 10 per cent of its TV rights for the next 25 years to US firm Sixth Street.
Then earlier on Monday, Barcelona announced the arrival of Kessie on a free transfer.
Both Christensen and Kessie have release clauses of €500 million.
Christensen spoke about his Chelsea exit last month, describing the final few months of his time at Stamford Bridge as “mentally tough”.
The Denmark international made his Chelsea debut in 2014. He spent two seasons on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach between 2015 and 2017 before returning to Chelsea.
Christensen leaves Chelsea having made 161 appearances for the club, as well as winning the Champions League and Europa League.
He joins a Barcelona defensive unit that includes Gerard Pique, Eric Garcia, Samuel Umtiti and Clement Lenglet, although the latter is close to joining Tottenham Hotspur on a season-long loan.
