Manchester United have seemingly made another breakthrough in the summer transfer market, as they look set to sign left-back Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord after hijacking the defender’s pre-destined move to Olympique Lyonnais.

A deal to take the Netherlands international to Lyon was thought to be all but completed, with the Ligue 1 side agreeing a fee of €15million with Feyenoord but United are now close to hijacking that deal after making a more improved offer.
United manager Erik ten Hag is eager to add the 22 year-old to his squad ahead of the new season, but reports have suggested United were prioritising a deal for Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong before moving onto other targets. The Dutchman is said to fit the bill in what ten Hag is looking for in his United squad – young, hungry players who are eager to impress.
Asides Lyon, Malacia is also wanted by mega-rich Newcastle United with Voetbal International reporting that Feyenoord had also agreed a deal with the Premier League side on Monday night and that a final decision laid with the player.
Malacia shares the same agent with Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who United are hopeful of signing in the coming weeks.

Ten Hag tried to sign the Malacia during his time at Ajax as manager last summer, but the intense rivalry between the Amsterdam club and Feyenoord meant no deal could be done.
