Germany earned their first win of the 2022/2023 UEFA Nations League with a comprehensive 5-2 whitewash of visiting Italy at Monchengladbach on Tuesday evening.

Die Maanschaft had been winless from their first three games and needed to register their first win which they did in style. Hansi Flick’s side raced to a 2-0 lead at half-time courtesy of goals from Joshua Kimmich and a penalty from Ilkay Gundogan. The second half saw Thomas Muller net a third for the hosts plus a brace from Timo Werner added some gloss to the scoreline, though the Azzurri scored a pair of consolation strikes through Wilfried Gnonto and Alessandro Bastoni.

In our second feature match of the evening, England succumbed to a humiliating and an embarrassing 3-0 home defeat to Hungary.

Roland Sallai netted a brace while Zsolt Nagy and Daniel Gazdag scored a third and a fourth as the visitors did the double over the famous Three Lions, who can no longer advance into the next round of the competition.

Marco Rossi’s side also becomes the first Hungary team to beat England away from home since 1953.
