Catalan giants FC Barcelona ended their 2021/2022 La Liga campaign on a disappointing note, losing 2-0 at the Camp Nou to Villarreal on Sunday night.
The Blaugrana had already secured UEFA Champions League football for next season so there was nothing at stake for Xavi Hernandez’s men, but playing in front of their home fans in their last game of the campaign meant they had to sign off on a high.
The Yellow Submarine opened the scoring through Alfonso Pedraza in the 41st minute, after a cross from Dani Parejo. The visitors went into the break with the slender lead.

The second half yielded more fruit in terms of goals for Unai Emery’s boys as Moi Gomez found the back of the net in the 55th minute, taking advantage of a defensive mix-up to add to the visitors’ lead.

FC Barcelona finish the season in second place while Villarreal have secured their spot in the UEFA Europa Conference League for next season, having ended the season in seventh position in La Liga.
