Chelsea 1-1 Leicester City: Alonso strike rescues point for the Blues; Maddison on song for the Foxes

Chelsea sealed third spot on the Premier League standings after they were held to a 1-1 draw by visiting Leicester City at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night.

England international James Maddison made a case for himself to be included in Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate’s plans for the FIFA Men’s World Cup in Qatar later this year by opening the scoring as early as the sixth minute.

Spanish full-back Marcos Alonso soon restored parity for the Blues when he volleyed home in the 35th minute, off an assist from fellow defender Reese James as the opening half ended all square.

The second half couldn’t produce a winner despite Chelsea’s best efforts, with both sides settling for a share of the spoils.
