Southampton 1-2 Liverpool: Reds push title race to final day as gap is cut to ONE point, Minamino & Matip on targets

Liverpool Football Club pushed the Premier League title race of the 2021/2022 season to the final day, following a come-from-behind 2-1 victory away to Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium.

The Reds knew that in order to give themselves a chance of challenging Manchester City for the title on the final Matchday, only a win would suffice but things did not go according to script as Nathan Redmond opened the scoring for the Saints in the 13th minute.

Roberto Firmino soon put the ball into the net for the visitors but it was ruled out for offside. However, the Reds soon found the equalizer through Japanese international Takumi Minamino as both sides went into the interval all square.

The second half saw Jurgen Klopp’s men continue to dominate and they went in front for the first time in the encounter through Joel Matip, who directed his effort on target.

The victory for the Reds means that there is all to play for come Matchday 38 of the Premier League season – with Liverpool set to face Wolverhampton Wanderers, while Manchester City will square up against Aston Villa.

Senegalese forward Sadio Mane is not in the squad, while Curtis Jones, Joel Matip, Elliot, Roberto Firmino and Takumi Minamino are all in the Starting XI. As expected, Mo Salah, Fabinho and Virgil van Dijk are omitted from today’s clash due to injuries.

The hosts’ line-up set to take on Liverpool at St. Mary’s tonight.
