Spanish giants Real Madrid sealed the 2021/2022 La Liga Santander title on Saturday, following a comprehensive 4-0 victory over visiting Catalan outfit Espanyol.

The capital side prior to the encounter only needed to avoid defeat to Espanyol in order to be crowned domestic champions, but Carlo Ancelotti’s men ensured they claimed the title in front of their home fans in style by scooping all three points on the day.

Los Blancos took the lead in the 33rd minute through attacker Rodrygo who was put through on goal by skipper Marcelo, and he showed brilliant composure inside the box to fire into the bottom right corner.

Eleven minutes later, it was 2-0 to the home side as a mistake from the Espanyol defence gifted a chance to a lurking Rodrygo, who kept his cool and rolled the ball into the net from close range.

Spanish forward Marco Asensio continued the onslaught in the second period by slotting home Madrid’s third goal of the afternoon. Eduardo Camavinga found himself with the ball at his feet in space after a lightning counter attack, and he slid the ball to Asensio who coolly guided his effort past the keeper.

Frenchman Karim Benzema who was a second half substitute, made the points and the title secure as he showed great awareness inside the box to latch on to a brilliant pass from Vinicius Junior and fire a first-time shot into the bottom left corner.
The win sees Madrid gaffer Carlo Ancelotti make history as he became the first manager to win a top-flight domestic title in each of Europe’s Top-Five leagues.
