Full Time Atletico Madrid 1-1 Man United

Man United would be happy with this result. Far from their best for large periods in this game but still very much in the tie.

Anthony Elanga brilliant finish. Could easily have snatched chance but rolled ball before Jan Oblak was set.

Second Half

Half-time

Atleti are having a poor season in La Liga and are without Carrasco and Koke and have Suarez and Griezmann, both half-fit, on the bench. But they’re coasting against Man United so far

We are underway at the Wanda Metropolitan! Will Ronaldo hurt Altleti again?

Manchester United return to Champions League action tonight as they travel to Spain to face Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the last-16 tie.

Consistency continues to be a problem for Ralf Rangnick’s side, but although they suffered yet another second-half slip-up against Leeds on the weekend, this time they were able to recover and go on to win the match.

Rangnick’s only European match in charge of United so far was a 1-1 draw against Young Boys in the final group-stage match, but that was a heavily rotated side with qualification to the knockout stages already secured.

It’s a tough assignment for the Premier League side, although their opponents have been somewhat ‘un-Atletico’ in recent weeks. Diego Simeone’s side have lost seven matches in all competitions since the start of December, and have been conceding plenty of goals.

They are have had plenty of success in Europe though and despite that recent run, it would be no surprise if the Spanish side turned up on the biggest stage.
