The Atlas Lions of Morocco show their supremacy over the Malawians by defeating them 2-1 courtesy of goals from Youssef En-Nesyri and a lovely freekick by Achraf Hakimi. Malawi can be proud of their outing at AFCON 2021, they weren’t expected to overcome the Moroccans but they nonetheless gave a good account of themselves.

Malawi on the other hand began their AFCON campaign with a 1-0 loss to Guinea, before accounting for Zimbabwe 2-1. They drew goalless with Senegal in their final game which saw them finish third in Group B and secure a place in the last 16 as one of the four best third-placed sides.

They rounded off their group stage campaign with an entertaining 2-2 draw against a resilient Gabonese side to go unbeaten.

Earlier today, the Teranga Lions of Senegal marched on to the quarter-finals courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Cape Verde. The game saw two reds cards being dished out to the Cape Verdeans, as they finished the tie with nine players. Also, Liverpool forward Sadio Mane who was on the scoresheet, had to be taken off, following a clash of heads. Hopefully, he gets better and returns to the coach Aliou Cisse’s side.
