6 people have been confirmed dead with several injured in stampede after Cameroon AFCON tie

Cameroon’s progress at the African Cup of Nations was overshadowed by a stampede during the host nation’s victory over Comoros on Monday.

The crush happened as crowds struggled to get access to Olembe Stadium in the capital of Yaounde as Cameroon beat Comoros 2-1 to reach the quarterfinals.

More updates as it breaks…

Hosts Cameroon narrowly beat 10-man Comoros in the last 16 at the Africa Cup of Nations, despite playing against a side with an outfield player in goal and a man advantage for 83 minutes.

With no recognised goalkeeper, down to ten men early on and Comoros have delivered an outstanding performance! But, it’s Cameroon who advance to the quarter-finals!

The Indomitable Lions first took the lead in the 29th minute with a fine effort from Karl Ekambi. They later doubled the lead in the 70th minute through star man Vincent Aboubakar, who took his goal tally to 6.

There was a glimmer of hope for Comoros when Youssouf M’Changama curled a sublime free-kick into the net.
